The New NIH Design Requirements Manual for State-of-the-Art Biomedical Research Facilities ( WEBNIHDES )
Description:
This session guides attendees through the maze of requirements, rules and regulations that govern biomedical and animal research facility planning, programming, design and construction efforts. The presentation introduces attendees to the New Design Requirements Manual (DRM) and instructs on its use, and the organization of its contents. The DRM includes design guidelines, health and safety information and biological containment and safety requirements for the planning, programming and design of biomedical and animal research facilities. Compliance with the DRM ensures that NIH owned and funded facilities will be of the highest quality and provides the minimum standards for other institutions around the world.
The NIH pursues, researches and tests state-of-the-art innovative technology to be used for biomedical research facilities, and incorporates research results and lessons-learned from the design and construction of NIH owned and funded laboratory facilities.
